One of the biggest challenges with cancer is how to reduce the time to diagnosis. We need people to identify with the symptoms of the blood cancer myeloma sooner, thereby getting them to speak to a GP and get tested.
Research told me that GPs and patients describe symptoms very differently. I interviewed real myeloma patients and asked them to describe their symptoms as they felt them. This led me to create the ‘In Mye Own Words’ campaign with bright, impactful patient statements showcased across social channels during Myeloma Awareness Week. I also created a ‘symptom translator’ that helped GPs and patients communicate more effectively, with the aim to get to diagnosis sooner.
